What We're Thankful For: Day 4

Christmas is a time of giving and receiving, and maybe celebrating some dude’s birth, but it’s also about looking back over the last year and recognising what we should be thankful for. Today, we are thankful for… CARTER BURWELL.

Long time collaborator of the Coen brothers, Burwell has been producing incredible scores for decades but has sadly gone unnoticed, however this may be his year. Firstly there was Mr Holmes, the gorgeous score to the Ian Mckellen as Sherlock Holmes vehicle, but even better than that is Todd Haynes' Carol. Here Burwell displays his innate talent for achingly beautiful melody with emotional heft - as far as I'm concerned it's his Oscar to lose.
